The Society for Arts Leadership Educators (SALE) is pleased to announce a call for proposals for the 2025 conference. For the upcoming conference, we are introducing a novel and innovative approach to our scholarly convening, designed to foster deeper engagement, collaboration, and practical problem-solving within the field of arts management and leadership education.

Call for Proposals: Arts Management and Leadership Education Conference

We invite submissions from practitioners, policymakers, and academics in the field of arts management and leadership education. Our conference aims to create a dynamic collegial environment where diverse stakeholders can share experiences, explore research ideas, and form meaningful collaborations.

Proposal Categories

We welcome submissions in three categories:

  1. Issue Presentations and Discussions

  2. Research Collaboration Proposals

  3. Traditional Research Presentations

1. Issue Presentations and Discussions

We seek brief presentations (30 minutes including a 15-20 minute discussion) addressing specific challenges or topics, followed by discussions. This category is ideal for:

  • Practitioners: Address field issues, discuss trends, or highlight skills needed by new graduates.

  • Policymakers: Explore trends, changes, issues requiring collegiate attention, or research needs.

  • Academics: Share challenges faced in education or discuss ongoing research.

Potential Topics:

  • Fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion in arts administration education

  • Balancing theory and practical application in curriculum design

  • Preparing students for the gig economy and freelance work

  • Incorporating emerging technologies in arts management education

Submission Requirements:

  • Issue presentations are collaborative, with 2-4 presenters discussing the proposed issue or challenge they have faced followed by a guided discussion. 

  • Presentation title

  • Brief description (250 words max) outlining the issue, approach, and discussion points

  • Presenters names, affiliations, and contact information

2. Research Collaboration Summit

The conference culminates in a pivotal 90-minute interdisciplinary plenary session with hosted discussion about future research topics, designed to catalyze the genesis of novel research collaborations. This intellectually stimulating forum serves as a nexus for participants to engage in profound discourse, allowing them to delve into their esoteric specialties and shared passions with like-minded scholars.

Collaborative Synergy:

This environment fosters a unique amalgamation of expertise, providing an ideal platform for researchers to:

  • Explore the intersections of diverse academic disciplines

  • Articulate and refine nascent hypotheses

  • Identify potential synergies between seemingly disparate fields of study

Intellectual Exploration:

The session's structure encourages participants to transcend traditional academic boundaries, facilitating the cross-pollination of ideas that often leads to groundbreaking discoveries. Attendees will have the opportunity to:

  • Engage in spirited debates on cutting-edge theories

  • Share their most recent findings and methodologies

  • Collaboratively brainstorm innovative research directions

  • This immersive experience not only fosters the development of new research partnerships but also serves as a crucible for the emergence of paradigm-shifting concepts. It provides a rare opportunity for scholars to indulge their intellectual curiosity and collectively push the boundaries of human knowledge.

Submission Guidelines

To submit a research collaboration proposal, please provide the following:

  • Topic presenter, affiliation(s), and contact information

  • Proposed research collaboration topic

  • Detailed proposal (maximum 250 words) addressing the potential topics, areas of relevant or tangential inquiry, your relevant research experience and expertise

3. Traditional Research Presentations

We also welcome traditional research presentations for those wishing to share completed or ongoing work with conference attendees. Research presentations are 20 minutes in length including the question and answer portion. Research presentations will be combined with 1-2 other presentations based on theme.  

 

Submission Guidelines:

To submit a traditional research presentation proposal, please provide the following:

 

  • Presenter(s) name(s), affiliation(s), and contact information

  • Proposal title

  • Detailed proposal (maximum 250 words) addressing the requirements outlined above as well as relevant research experience and expertise

We look forward to receiving your proposals and facilitating a transformative and collaborative experience at the SALE 2025 Conference. This new approach marks a significant shift in how we convene as scholars, and we are excited to embark on this journey together.

 

Submissions are reviewed on a rolling basis, as we recognize that different institutions have different funding deadlines for conference funding. 

 

Submissions received by 11:59pm on:

October 29th, 2024 will receive responses by November 12th, 2024.
November 12th, 2024 will receive responses by November 26th, 2024.
November 26th, 2024 will receive responses by December 10th, 2024.
