The History

SALE (The Society for Arts Leadership Educators) began in 2017 as a way for artists, arts policymakers, and arts leadership scholars to gather and share their latest insights. It was a small gathering in Atlanta, but it grew. After successful conferences on the high seas and for several years in Charleston, in 2025 SALE partners with WPAA for a joint event.

Our mission is to foster innovation, collaboration, and excellence in the field by providing a vibrant platform for sharing groundbreaking research, practical insights, and transformative experiences. SALE cultivates an environment where diverse perspectives intersect, sparking creativity and driving progress. Through our gatherings, we nurture meaningful connections, inspire cross-disciplinary dialogue, and empower leaders to navigate the evolving landscape of the arts. Join us in advancing the field, one conversation at a time.

SALE is committed to pushing the boundaries of arts administration and leadership. This commitment is reflected in:

  • Innovation Forums: Meetings where members can present and discuss new ideas, technologies, and methodologies that have the potential to transform the arts sector.
